So I was browsing through an online copy of the New Era, the Mormon church's youth magazine, because when I'm anxious and depressive I sometimes regress. This time it actually helped, though, to take a look at this stuff in hindsight.
We've been having a lot of fun streaming Fate/EXTELLA over on our Twitch channel. It's silly, funny, and extremely gay, in the "girls doing it with other girls" sense. But it's also very dramatic, and on our first playthrough it made us cry so hard. For all these reasons, it is our favourite game ever.
But not everyone likes tears and shock. Frankly, not everyone can take it, especially with everything that's going on right now.
With that in mind, starting this Saturday evening at 10 PM Eastern we're going to stream a much fluffier and more soothing game: Atelier Ayesha Plus, the improved version of the first game in the Dusk trilogy.
So, if you've read my access-locked posts the conflict is still going on. ^^; Someone important in my partner and friends' lives keeps saying and doing things that unintentionally hurt everyone, and dealing with the fallout -- and helping people defend themselves -- has been a full-time job these past few weeks.
On the plus side, I just got my hardcover copy of War of Ashes: Fate of Agaptus, by Sophie Lagacé! And for a limited time, you can get a pay-what-you-want (as low as $0) PDF version on DriveThruRPG.
It's a rather grim fantasy RPG, which stars cute furry characters. I love it. ^^; It has very good production values, and the author does a really good job of porting the best parts of miniatures-based RPGs into Fate Accelerated, with stunts and manoeuvres that affect and are affected by positioning.
Why does it have optional minis rules? Because it's based on the War of Ashes miniatures game(s) by Zombiesmith, the makers of Kami Tale! So you can get cute, monstrous furry miniatures for your grimdark roleplaying game.
... I want all of them.
Caramel Mokaccino is, according to its Kickstarter page,
An otome (GxB/GxG) visual novel about love, friendship, college and coffee!
It's going to be a dating sim centred on a coffee shop, with a waitressing minigame. There's a free demo already playable.
The reason that this is a big deal is because the creators were on the team for Cute Demon Crashers, a free 18+ visual novel about cuteness, consent, and safe exploration. It has pretty much the same artstyle, and characters from the other game are making official and unofficial cameo appearances.
While it's not going to be 18+, it will allow same- and opposite-gender relationships (no nonbinary characters I think :c ) and have at least one polyamorous ending. Also, if they make it just a little farther in their fundraiser, they will release a separate, free "18+ fandisk" for the game.
... oh yeah, there are only a few hours left. Whoops!
I suggest checking it out when you get the chance. I am also totally not fangirling over the prospect of a "sequel" to one of my favourite VNs.
We got to try out a game of Endless Fantasy Tactics with Alias, a day or two ago. It was pretty fun!
It's basically Final Fantasy Tactics: the minis game. Which means we had to draw an isometric map, and HP/MP counters for everyone. Oh, and it uses stat cards normally, so we printed out lists with our models' stats on them instead.
Technically you don't have to go to these lengths. They sell decks of cards for all of the models and items, plus a beginner set with a reconfigurable 3d board. But we wanted to start with the core rulebook, and we figured it wouldn't take that long to make our own play aids.
Turns out, it did ^^; partly because we had to learn how to do layout in Pages first. And then when we actually started playing, our large-sized models took a hit for each square they stand on, every time Alias' Lunarian bunnies AOE'd.
(The gels all want to be heroes, or something. It's awesome.)
Anyway, we'll probably be playing this more in the future. And here are some more pics of the play aids we created / used, behind the cut:

If you get two or more of them together at the same time, they start dancing. And it is SO ADORABLE OMG.
I saw it get up to five before one of the Moogles started glitching out.
The peach blossoms are in bloom, and the city-states of Eorzea are decorated for the event! But the cutest "decorations" are the birds everywhere, including one that has Moogle eyes and whiskers and a pom-pom. :3
