It is okay!

I was not trying to criticize you, dear foxgem. If you saw a mirror in what I said - well, that is up to you. I truly was trying to describe how I would go forward myself with the information you'd given me.

I think that what you say here

>> part of it is, I just want to be able to play different games with other people. <<

and here

>> And if they knew about something else -- and if RPG culture was more like board game culture, where no one gets so attached to a single game -- then they might like it better. <<

might be your way forward.

Strategy idea, feel free to try or not:

'I know you've probably heard of role-playing games, and likely Dungeons and Dragons is the one you know by name, but there are MUCH MORE INTERESTING ones that have amazing settings, mechanics, backstory, character creation, etc, etc, and because we both like (non-heteropatriarchal interest) I bet you'd love how (game) lets you (thing).'

You don't have to put D&D down in particular, just share your enthusiasm for other games. I'd be interested to hear that. People who are geeks and don't like being talked over by alt-reich geek guys would likely be interested by that! If they don't like enthusiasm for cool games and stories that are more inclusive, I personally probably wouldn't want to play with them.

My formative games were White Wolf! Which is another barrel of problems, but not the *same* ones 100% as D&D. I think of myself as someone who likes RPGs *in general* and am, in theory, open to trying different games.
