We're at it again, drafting essays in Skype. Here are our latest musings:
11:04 PM Jewelfox wants to trade her PSP in for a Vita or something, maybe, but there are several amazing games that are only available in UMD format. Which, the only device that can read those is a PSP.
11:05 PM Jewelfox feels like it's just wrong to ask people either to give up old games when they upgrade, or hold on to ten-year-old consoles, and that this kind of waste is endemic to the whole console industry.
Jewelfox used to have an entire TV stand / mini bookcase with like half a dozen consoles set up on it. >_>;
11:07 PM What makes this even worse is that a lot of old games were never made in a downloadable format, period. So PS2 games like Skygunner and Steambot Chronicles are super-expensive collector's items.
That keeps a lot of people from enjoying these quirky, amazing games. And the companies that make them, especially console makers, are okay with this bullshit.
11:08 PM It was actually kind of revolutionary when Microsoft said they were going to give Xbox 360 backwards compatibility to the Xbox One. That's, like, unheard-of nowadays.
11:09 PM Jewelfox gets the appeal of console collecting, but feels that it's wrong that this is the only way to play certain games. Without technically breaking the law, that is.
11:10 PM Jewelfox also feels like there are a ton of unappreciated consoles that should be recycled but are being thrown out or collecting dust instead.
